Every one of us, especially teacher come across children who otherwise have normal or above normal intelligence, but do not perform well in their studies. These children have difficulty dealing with text and or numbers. They are routinely branded as dull or lazy, without realizing the complexity of their inherited problem, which renders them at a disadvantage in as much as dealing with text is concerned. If we look around, we will find a number of such children going through lot of pain, because of ridicule for their incapacity in dealing with text and numbers. It is in the recent times that the problem is being looked upon in its right perspective. The problem is now recognized as Dyslexia a condition of the brain which is the cause of poor academic performance, especially reading, writing, spellings and or Math/s. Dyslexia is a neurological difference and may occurs at all levels of intelligence.
Many dyslexics never learn to read or write effectively, although they tend to show above average intelligence in other areas. A number of students suffering from dyslexia also experience symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyper Activity (ADHD). ADD is the difficulty in paying sustained attention to certain things. In ADHD hyperactivity and restlessness are present in addition to lack of sustained attention.

Timely Assessment and intervention with Educational Therapies is the answer.
